What To Do If Your Early Ford Doors Don't Allign or Shut Well...
Early Ford doors are often aligned by bending the hinges. First Thing To Do Is To Check the Hinges for Excessive Hinge Pin Wear.
If the Door Can Be Lifted Into Alignment This Is a Sign of
Hinge Pin Wear, Hinge Mount Structure Problems, or Body to Frame Attachment
Problems.
Second... Check the Hinges for Loose Attachment to the Body and
Door. Also Check the Body and Door for Structural Deterioration
Where the Hinges Mount.
Third... Check the Body to Frame Mounting, Make Sure All Mounting
Bolts Are Present and Tight and All Pads Are Present and in Good Condition. Check the Body and Frame to Make Sure Both Are Structurally
Sound.
Fourth... Check the Alignment of the Door to the Hinge Post with
the Door Closed. If the Door and Post are Nice Parallel Then Alignment Needs to Be
Done by Shims.
Fifth... If the Door and Post are Not Parallel, Or the Gap is Too Tight or Wide, Then Bending the Hinges is An Option.
To Open a Hinge Gap... For Example: To Raise the Back of
a Front Door. You Open The Gap of The Lower Hinge, Or Close the Gap of the Upper Hinge. You Place a Hard Block Between the Leaves of the Hinge and Gently Push / Close the
Door. A Piece of Thick Flat Steel or An Old Thread File Works Well.
To Close a Hinge Gap Clamp the Hinge Leaves Together and
Gently Pull / Open the Door.
If That Doesn't Work a Big Hammer with a Bigger Hammer to Use as An Anvil Can Be Used to Gently Bump the Hinge Leaves.
Note That The Only Adjustment with Hinges is the Angle of
the Door to the Hinge Post. Ford Made No Provision for Moving the Door In Or
Out at the Hinge Post. Once the Door is Aligned to the Hinge Post the Alignment
to the Latch Post is by Shimming the Body. Doors Hanging Out at the Bottom of
the Latch Post are a Symptom of Poor Body to Frame Alignment or Body or Door
Structure Alignment Problems.

Oude Ford deuren worden vaak uitgelijnd dmv het buigen van
de scharnieren.
1: Controleer de scharnieren voor buitensporige speling / slijtage
op de scharnier pin. Als de deur speling
heeft en kan worden opgetild als deze open is, is dit een teken van scharnier
pin slijtage, scharnier bevestiging of body to frame bevestiging.
2: Controleer de scharnieren voor losse bevestiging aan de
body en/of deur. Controleer ook de body en/of deur voor structurele
verslechtering bij de scharnier montage punten.
3: Controleer de body / frame montage, zorg ervoor dat alle
bevestigingsbouten aanwezig zijn en strak aangedraaid zijn. Alle plaatjes
aanwezig en in goede conditie zijn. Controleer de body en frame om ervoor te
zorgen dat beide structureel in goede staat zijn.
4: Controleer de uitlijning van de deur naar de scharnier
post met de deur gesloten. Als de deur en post mooi parallel lopen dan zal de
aanpassing moeten gebeuren dmv shims / vulplaatjes.
5: Als de deur en de post niet parallel lopen, of de kier / lijn
te strak of te groot dan is het buigen van de scharnieren een optie.
6: Om de scharnier afstand te vergroten. Bijvoorbeeld... om de achterkant van een voordeur te lichten,
opent u de kier / afstand tussen de onderste scharnier, of verkleind u de afstand
tussen de bovenste. Plaats hiervoor een hard voorwerp tussen de flenzen van het
scharnier en sluit dan voorzichtig de deur. Een oude stalen strip of oude draad
vijl werkt goed, hoewel er vroeger ook speciaal gereedschap voor was om dit te
doen.
7: Om de scharnier afstand te verkleinen klemt men de
scharnier flenzen samen en probeert met zachtjes de deur een beetje te openen. Als
dat niet werkt kunt een grote hamer met een grotere hamer om te gebruiken als
een tegenslag ( aambeeld ) gebruiken om voorzichtig tegen de scharnier flenzen
aan te tikken / slaan.
Let erop dat de enige aanpassing met scharnieren de hoek van
de deur naar de scharnier post is. Ford maakte geen verstelbaar systeem voor
het aanpassen ( in- of uit stellen van het scharnier ) van de deur. Zodra de deur / scharnier werd bevestigd werd deze
uitgelijnd dmv vulplaatjes tussen scharnier en body. Deuren die afhangen is het
symptoom van slechte body to frame bevestiging of deur uitlijning problemen.
