Back in ’64, Chevy wanted to show off the new Impala.
So what do you do?
Put a '64 Impala on top of a 1,500-foot rock in Utah.
No CGI. No Photoshop. Just a full-size Impala mock-up, a
helicopter, some serious balls — and model Shirley Rumsey sitting behind the
wheel.
They flew the car up in pieces, bolted it back together on
top of Castleton Tower, shot the commercial and called it a
day.
Well… almost.
The wind picked up, and getting everybody back down
turned into a bit of a problem.
Now THAT'S advertising.
Check out the original ’64 commercial below.
And Chevy wasn't done. They pulled the same stunt again
in 1973 — and unbelievably, again in 2026 with a Silverado
ZR2.
